Dear Attendant Service Recipient,

On behalf of the Abuse Prevention Working Group of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care -Toronto region and the Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy, I would like to invite you to participate in a research project that will help develop strategies to prevent abuse within the community of attendant services in the greater Toronto area. We are very interested in hearing your perspective on what can be done to prevent abuse. The results of this research project will be used in the development of policies and materials that will help prevent abuse in the future, and the success of this project relies on input from persons who receive services.

Interviews will be scheduled individually with each participant and will take place in October or November. The interview will take approximately one hour, and can be done in a location that is convenient for the participant- either in a centralized location or in the participant’s home. During the interviews, a trained interviewer will ask questions of each participant and responses will be tape recorded. The confidentiality of each participant will be guarded very carefully, and in the reporting of results participants will not be identified in any way. The interviews and the analysis of the data (including listening to the tape recordings of the interviews) are being done by Envision Management, an independent research organization. At no time will representatives from the Abuse Prevention Working Group or from the Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy have access to the tape recordings.

If you wish to take part in these interviews or if you would like further information on this project, please contact me by October 15, 2007:
